the halloween feat!

I did it..... not sure how? but after a month's worth of thought and consideration.... I figured out how to pull off my 7yr old's costume request...

"The money you could be saving with Geico!" This kid is definitely 100% original .....

We are working out last minute details.... like keeping it strapped to his body.... there is a big hole in the center with a slit in the back for him to slip into but I'm having trouble keeping him from being TOO wiggly. (note to self..... he's only 7, he's a boy, therefore he's wiggly - good thing the google eyes are on springs..... they will be working properly.... there's always a bright side.)

treats to y'all!

the coolest mom on the block.....

while I am not an advocate for brainwashing... I do believe that it is perfectly fine to plant the seed EARLY in the brains of little boys that they really do have the COOLEST mom on the block, living in the same household as them.....

trust me... it has helped to improve their image of me.... when I am not so popular in letting them have their way every-time they thing they should.....

So to prove that I can be the coolest mom on the block..... I picked my youngest up from preschool, after having a bike parade thru the church parking lot..... I decided we need to CELEBRATE!

why celebrate a plain ol' friday?
it occurred to me as I saw my little monkey riding his bike with all the other kids.... that he is really getting big - FAST! (yikes) he starts kindergarten next year...... he's pretty much a free thinker these days, too.... so I'm not sure how much longer he'll believe that I am the coolest mom on the block?

As we loaded up in the car.... he told me his hair was in his eyes...... I asked what he would like to do about that...... He said a trip to "SuperHairCuts" would be fantastic..... so off we went.....

side note - it's always a little bit dangerous taking the boys into superhaircuts..... because they have their walls covered with mirrors and attached to mirrored walls are glass shelves with lots of hair products.... and they are all at the eye level of a 5 year old..... (see where I am headed......) after a hair cut...... we usually head to baskin-robins (the old 31 flavors) but since we had not had lunch yet.... we went to Johnny Rocket's instead.

I figured a milk shake was in order.... the hamburgers were not bad either...... At Johnny Rockets, we listened to the jukebox music in the background.... I was throughly impressed when my son requested "the screaming song" it's know otherwise know to you as "I FEEL GOOD" by James Brown. Since it was halloween season, we also selected "SPOOKY" by Classics 5. We sang along in unison, thankfully there were only 2 other customers in Johnny Rockets...... a grumpy older man, who quite frankly I thought could use some cheering up or maybe a chuckle from Marcel and I, and little girl and her daddy. So... we sang...... never made the Grumpy man laugh but, oh well, we tried. The waitress really got a kick out of us and ended up giving Marcel stickers, coloring sheets, a balloon and free ICE CREAM! How lucky is he? Not bad for the COOLEST MOM on the block.....

that witchy woman!

sometimes she knows me better than I know myself..... she always sends the coolest art.... (made by herself of course) the funniest cards...... the spookiest stuff (cuz she knows I LOVE it!)...... this hand came in the mail over the weekend.... (but unfortunately I was a little under the weather......) I did not fetch the mail until yesterday I found the most fancy hand in a box! Her nails perfectly painted and cute, cute tulle adorning her sleeve.

I promptly stuffed her arm in the piano....... My BOYS almost flipped their lids.... they thought it was the coolest thing ever.... and my husband too...... he did nonchalantly ask if we were going to have to take up a storage unit after halloween is over.... I think I accumulate a little "bit" more each year..... (oops). I am almost beginning to like it more than christmas... what's not to like... chocolate being shoved at you down every turn - the grocery stores... the convenient stores .... the card stores... the gas station..... costco....... every where I turn someone is trying to sell me chocolate...... maybe I should take a hint and give in to my urges??

this morning I took her arm and shoved it into the movie cabinet above the t.v..... ironically maggie and ferocious beast was playing.... (hehehe)

then one last thought occurred to me, as I was going to shove a loaf of pumpkin bread in the oven....... maybe I should bake her, too? OHHHH - what a wicked little witch I am turning into.

a fair to remember

a sure fire fun summertime activity turned into a mini-album!

We had a "fair"-ly good time at the Sonoma County Fair. With the boys and their grandparents.... I COULD not resist turning all those "fair" pics into a mini album when I saw the cutest line of paper by Sassafras.... it's was packed with vintage goodness, PERFECT for the fair!! If you know me at all - I have an obsession with tickets..... so I had plenty of those to add to my mini layouts.... I was actually glad that I was able to put some of those to use.... (finally - I've been busy collecting but not so busy using them.....)

I lOVE to save the "ephemera" from trips like this... and I was sure to use them, where ever I could......

If you ask me what my favorite part was.... it was a trip through the "arts and crafts" exhibit. Beautiful quilts, collage, paper-maiche, bead work, glass work, photography, metal work, you name it.... those people in northern california are certainly talented!! I would have never believed it if I did not see it with my own eyes.. but there was a lady demonstrating how to "KNIT" metal.... yes metal wire.... I asked her what she was making... she simply said a "jacket for her mail box" . Cool! you go lady!!

If you ask my boys what their fav part was.... they will say the rides...... I can't get my oldest off the mini roller coaster rides... and my youngest he liked the swingy rides..... My husband I think he liked the cotton candy and carmel apples....

Regardless of our differing favorite activities of the fair... we all had a blast and I am sure it will always be "A fair to remember".
